Chapter 1|What Is Somatic Balancing™?
Somatic Balancing™ is a subtle, hands-on technique that awakens the body’s deep “memory of natural balance” through a uniquely delicate approach to physical tension patterns.
It was developed in 2007 by Koichi Toyama, requiring no equipment or massage table—only simple actions such as simultaneously touching multiple points on the body and performing a small jump. Through this, pain and tension gently begin to dissolve.
Unlike traditional bodywork or massage,
- The practitioner does not impose adjustments through force, but rather
- helps the client’s own inner intelligence remember its innate ability to realign itself
This is what makes it so unique.
It’s as if the “blueprint your body has always known” is softly recalled—
in other words, the “map of the body” shaped by past experiences and habitual thought patterns starts to return to its original, natural terrain.
Today, this technique is available in markets, one-on-one sessions, group classes, and international events across Taiwan.
Clients often report rapid changes in pain, discomfort, or emotional blocks—
with frequent feedback like “I don’t know why, but I feel aligned” or “I feel so much lighter.”
Chapter 2|Why Does “Just Touching” Create Change in Somatic Balancing™?
Many people assume that deep pressure or forceful massage is necessary to create change in the body.
But in Somatic Balancing™, the opposite is true.
In fact, it is precisely because of the “minimal contact” that the body begins to awaken its own awareness and quietly initiate its own adjustments.
Our bodies are inherently sensitive and intelligent.
Rather than being overwhelmed by intense stimulation, they respond more deeply to “just enough awareness.” That’s where true transformation begins.
● The Resonant Structure of Points
In Somatic Balancing™, even if tension or discomfort is present in one specific area,
we don’t focus only on that location. Instead, we lightly touch several geometrically related points at the same time.
This “relationship” is based on resonant structures that Koichi discovered through years of observation and experimentation.
For example, the “inner left wrist” may be deeply connected to the “outer right ankle” or the “same side of the left ankle”—
areas that appear distant, yet are energetically intertwined.
By gently touching these points simultaneously,
the tension stored in each area begins to unwind, like tuning forks resonating with each other.
● The Moment of Emptiness in a Jump
One distinctive feature of this method is the “jump.”
While touching multiple points, the practitioner makes a small jump.
Within that fleeting moment of “emptiness” (Ku),
the body resets the patterns it was holding and begins to reintegrate itself.
As the body momentarily disconnects from gravity,
a space is created for a “different choice”—a shift from old patterns.
● Not Changing from Outside, but Helping the Body Remember
The essence of Somatic Balancing™ lies not in “adding” something to the body,
but in helping the body remember the state it has always known.
This is why no strong pressure or verbal guidance is needed.
The moment the body “remembers,” it begins to realign on its own—
and the practitioner’s role is simply to hold space for that quiet unfolding.
So in truth, it’s not that “just touching changes the body,” but rather,
touching helps awaken the body’s own capacity for change—
and that is the real secret behind Somatic Balancing™.
Chapter 3|Session Flow and Key Experiences in Somatic Balancing™
A Somatic Balancing™ session is not about the practitioner “changing” something.
Rather, it is a quiet, delicate, and dynamic space in which the client’s own body begins to realign itself—
and the practitioner simply accompanies that process.
Here, we introduce the basic session flow and the evolutionary process of this work.
● Number of Sessions and Duration of Somatic Balancing™
The number and duration of Somatic Balancing™ sessions vary from person to person.
While even a single session can create noticeable change, deeper layers can be accessed through multiple sessions.
Below is one possible session progression as a general example.
● Example of a Basic Technique
For example, if there is tension in the left calf—
the practitioner lightly touches several geometrically resonant points, such as the left shoulder blade or the right palm,
while the client performs a gentle jump.
As a result, resonance occurs between the touched points, and the calf tension begins to dissolve quietly.
● First Session: Noticing Bodily Discomfort
The client starts by observing movement and discovering areas of physical tension.
Examples include:
- Raising each knee alternately to sense which side feels heavier or harder to move
- Rotating the neck side to side and noticing any tightness
- Lifting and lowering the shoulders to check for discomfort
- Observing tension that arises with breathing (inhalation/exhalation)
Each discomfort is then addressed and released one by one through the basic technique.
● Second Session: Discovering and Releasing Pain Points
After the first session, new areas of tension or long-forgotten pain may surface.
In this phase, the practitioner gently applies pressure with the fingers to explore and find pain points (resonant points).
For each pain point:
- Touch related points simultaneously
- Use a jump to encourage resonance and release
This process helps release tension stored in the body’s memory.
● Sessions 3 to 6: Emotional Memory and Integration
Around the second session, past emotions and memories may begin to resurface.
In this stage, the client:
- Brings awareness to a past event or person
- Observes where in the body tension appears in relation to that memory
- Releases each area using the basic technique
Through this process, emotions, memories, and beliefs connected to physical patterns are gradually integrated.
Somatic Balancing™ sessions are not about “receiving treatment”—
they are an encounter with your inner sensations.
Through that encounter, your body schema—the internal map of body and mind—is gently rewritten to its natural state.
Chapter 4|Who Is Somatic Balancing™ For?
For Those Who Feel Resonance with Somatic Balancing™
Somatic Balancing™ offers more than simple relaxation or relief from discomfort.
It invites deep transformation, not just the loosening of surface muscles,
but a quiet reconnection to the deep inner sensations of your original self.
This modality tends to resonate especially with the following types of individuals:
● For Those Struggling with “Mysterious Ailments” or Chronic Tension
Even when medical exams show no abnormalities, you might feel:
- Shallow breathing
- A constant sense of tightness throughout the body
- Persistent fatigue
- A vague sense of anxiety
If you carry such unexplainable discomfort,
Somatic Balancing™ may offer a new gateway to hearing messages from deep within your body.
● For Those Who Store Mental or Emotional Tension in the Body
If you often suppress emotions or find yourself under pressure in front of others,
you may be unconsciously storing emotional blocks within the body.
Somatic Balancing™ allows you to gently experience the moment those blocks begin to dissolve.
● For Those Who Tend to Overthink
Sometimes, the more we try to analyze things in our head,
the more disconnected we become from the body.
This session doesn’t require you to stop thinking—
through the simple act of “feeling,”
many clients come to realize:
“The answer was in my body all along.”
● For Therapists, Healers, and Bodyworkers
For those already working with the body,
Somatic Balancing™ offers an opportunity to reencounter
the essence of transformation—not through external force,
but through inner awakening.
This technique also serves as a “quiet reboot,”
helping professionals reset and deepen their bodily sensitivity.
Not only in Japan or Taiwan,
but also while living in southern Spain and traveling across Europe,
Somatic Balancing™ has been warmly welcomed by therapists and healers
who explore the essence of body, mind, vibration, and energy.
● For Those Engaged in Deep Body Practices
(Yoga, meditation, movement, energy work, etc.)
For those who practice yoga, meditation, or other body-centered disciplines,
Somatic Balancing™ can be a powerful way to deepen your sensitivity and embodiment.
- Yoga practitioners have reported:
“Suddenly I could do poses that were previously difficult.” - Meditators have said:
“My body became still, and I could enter deeper meditative states.” - Athletes and dancers shared:
“My core became stable, and I could balance on one leg much longer.”
Such experiences point to improvements in performance and concentration.
Furthermore, energy testing devices and chakra assessments have confirmed that
all chakras tend to become more activated and balanced after a session.
Chapter 5|Session Flow and Pricing of Somatic Balancing™
Somatic Balancing™ sessions are quiet, delicate encounters with the body itself.
Rather than the practitioner “fixing” anything, the session gently draws out the client’s innate ability to realign and rebalance.
● Basic Session Format of Somatic Balancing™
Duration: 60–75 minutes per session
During each session, the practitioner observes areas of tension, pain, discomfort, or restricted breathing,
and gently touches multiple corresponding resonant points.
For example:
- Movement: Observing shoulder height, ease of lifting the knees, and grounding of the feet
- Sensation: Exploring breath flow, blockages, heaviness, temperature, or quality of pain
- Sound: Sometimes simple vocal sounds help identify resonant areas in the body
The practitioner gently listens to the body’s signals, guiding the client to return to their present-moment bodily awareness.
● Standard Pricing (Private Sessions) of Somatic Balancing™
- In-person session (60–75 minutes): NT$ 3,000
- 5-session package: NT$ 13,000 (NT$ 2,600 per session)

Chapter 7|Frequently Asked Questions (Q&A) about Somatic Balancing™
Q1|What should I wear to the session?
A| Please wear something comfortable and easy to move in.
Loose-fitting clothes without tightness are ideal.
Q2|Will you touch the area where I feel pain?
A| It depends, but in many cases we don’t directly touch the painful area.
Somatic Balancing™ works indirectly through resonant points elsewhere in the body.
Q3|What should I do during the session?
A| Sessions are generally done standing.
If that’s difficult, sitting on a chair is fine.
You may close your eyes and focus on sensations.
If images, emotions, or inspirations arise, feel free to share them.
Q4|How many sessions will I need?
A| Some people feel lighter after just one session.
After each session, the body continues adjusting, and forgotten tension or discomfort may emerge.
For deeper transformation and integration, 3 to 6 sessions are recommended.
Go at your own pace and listen to your body’s voice.
Q5|Are there any “healing reactions” after the session?
A| Some people may experience fatigue, sleepiness, or temporary
Chapter 8|The Origins of Somatic Balancing™ and Its Journey Through Europe
Q: How was Somatic Balancing™ created?
A: It all began in 2006 while I was studying bodywork in Tokyo.
At that time, I had left my path as a plant genetic modification researcher and was working as a temp while attending a bodywork school.
Q: Who did you practice on?
A: I was living in a large share house with over 100 Japanese and international residents.
I asked the housemates to let me practice on them, and many kindly agreed.
Q: How did that lead to the development of Somatic Balancing™?
A: Through these sessions, I noticed patterns in tension and pain.
For example, people with pain in the left side of the neck often had tension in the outer left thigh as well.
I kept observing and recording these connections.
Q: Where did the idea of using a jump come from?
A: I remembered hearing another bodyworker mention using a jump.
I tried having a client gently jump while I touched tension points—
and suddenly, their whole body relaxed at once. That was the birth of Somatic Balancing™.
Q: How does Europe fit into the story?
A: I was inspired to go to Europe, and within a month, I was in southern Spain.
There, I joined local markets and healing events, connected with therapists and healers from many countries,
and refined the technique through those diverse experiences.
Q: What kind of changes did you observe?
A: I saw not only physical improvements but also emotional and psychological trauma being released.
It became clear to me that this was a technique that worked even without words.
Q: Without words?
A: Yes. What’s needed during a session isn’t language, but “sensation.”
That’s why this work was able to reach people across Spain, Germany, the UK, Hungary, Finland, and Turkey—
even when we didn’t share a common language.
Chapter 9|10 Years in Taiwan and Returning to Somatic Balancing™
Q: When did you come to Taiwan?
A: In 2015. However, for nearly 10 years, I rarely used Somatic Balancing™.
Q: Why did you stop using it?
A: I wasn’t sure where, how, or to whom I should share it—especially with the language barrier being so strong.
Q: So what were you doing during that time?
A: After arriving in Taiwan in 2015, I lived in the Neishuangxi community and worked in the mountains while fully dedicating myself to developing self-healing techniques.
During that time, I let go of many old beliefs, and in 2017, I discovered a unique method called “Name Vibration Reading,” which was surprisingly well received in Taiwan.
It helped me build connections and eventually I began offering this technique at markets and events.
Q: Did you completely stop practicing Somatic Balancing™?
A: Yes, especially during the COVID era when in-person sessions became difficult.
Instead, I focused on remote healing methods and further developing self-healing systems.
Q: Is that what became Quantum Resonance Integration™ (QRI)?
A: Exactly. QRI was completed in 2024.
It’s a technique that receives energetic and vibrational information to release trauma and physical discomfort remotely.
This method is mainly offered in Japanese and English.
Q: Did you develop other techniques too?
A: Yes. For example, I created a method where clients can play a singing bowl instead of verbalizing questions, and I receive messages from their higher self through sound.
Around this time, the emergence of ChatGPT significantly reduced the language barrier.
Q: So why return to Somatic Balancing™?
A: In 2025, a strong feeling arose within me: “I want to use this technique again.”
QRI is wonderful, but it’s difficult to offer in Chinese.
In contrast, Somatic Balancing™ can be felt directly, beyond language.
I feel it is especially needed now, here in Taiwan.
Q: What are your future plans?
A: I’d like to officially resume offering Somatic Balancing™ in Taiwan and make it accessible to those who need it.
I also plan to combine it with remote healing and self-healing education to create integrated sessions and classes.
Q: Where can I find your latest updates?
A: I share updates on Instagram.
If you’re interested, feel free to follow me:

Chapter 10|A New Beginning Through Somatic Balancing™
Q: What kind of changes might I experience after a session?
A: It varies from person to person, but many people report:
“My breathing became deeper,” “My thoughts quieted,” “I returned to my center,”
and “The world somehow started to feel more gentle.”
Q: How might this affect my life?
A: This technique isn’t about “fixing problems.”
It supports you in “reconnecting with your inner self.”
As you listen to your body, become kinder to yourself,
and naturally release unnecessary tension and mental patterns,
your quality of life begins to shift.
Q: Any final message you’d like to share?
A: Somatic Balancing™ is not flashy.
But it quietly and deeply calls forth your “original sensations.”
I sincerely hope that this wordless technique continues to reach many people here in Taiwan.
Q: How can I book or ask questions?
A: You can find the latest schedule and session details via the Instagram link below.
Feel free to reach out via DM as well.
